Lust for, Long for…nesting edition

Lust for Long for

Lust for, Long for.  My weekly list of things I’ve loved on the web and I think you should check out!

You guys. I’m in major DIY organizing mode.  Week 35 of this pregnancy has got me wanting to redo everything.  I’ve only just started on some of the projects I want to complete before baby comes along, but I wanted to share with you some of my current favorite inspirations.

This homemade simmering fragrance. I. Am. Obsessed. Apparently it’s the same one they use to draw you in at Williams Sonoma.  I think I’m going to buy a mini crockpot so I can leave it on all day.

I recently refinished an antique dresser for Isla’s new room. The 1930s solid wood dresser had really great bones and just needed an update.  Enter CHALK PAINT. No sanding. No priming. Perfect for 1 day projects.  This is where I got the paint. Check out their “how to” videos.  I’m probably going to redo every piece of furniture I own…

DIY after dresser

I will be doing THIS absolutely as soon as possible.  CRAP BUCKETS.  Nice looking personalized buckets/baskets that live at the bottom of stairs (and in the entrance way!) with labels of where the stuff belong.  Number 1 rule in our house? Never go up or down the stairs without something in your hands. I currently make piles. I can’t WAIT to do this!

I came to the conclusion that we have bought exactly 1 of Isla’s stuffed animals.  I swear there is some funny business going on in her room when we are not around because these things appear to be breeding. We have a ton of stuffys. I don’t dare get rid of any of them because Isla knows at every moment the exact placement of each one.  I’m thinking of doing THIS to help keep things under control.  Stuffy Zoo. Perfect!

I’m going to make one of these homemade advent calendars. I despise the chocolate advent calendars of my youth. The thought of battling my 2 year old every morning over chocolate and then trying to explain why it’s gone away in January will likely not bring on any holiday spirit in this house. I much prefer something like this.

We currently do not own a coffee table. It’s crazy and a little weird but I don’t see us getting one soon. I have this vision of gigantic upholstered ottoman that I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist so perhaps one day that will become project of it’s own.  For now we have a few side tables and some smaller ottomans that desperately need a sturdy flat surface for placing coffee cups on.  I’m thinking I might DIY some serving trays. Like THIS. Only I think I will use old dresser drawers if I can find some low sided ones. Then attach a handle on the other side as well. Yep.

That’s it for today. Happy organizing!
